The Dixie Boys, band of Country-Rockabilly
originating from of Oporto, had their first appearance in June
of 1994, in the Dº Albuquerque Bar, in the Riverside of V.N.Gaia.
The first formation was composed by Filipe Barbosa (Big Phil)
in the Vocals, Rui Ferreira in the Bass, Fernando Pereira in
the Lead guitar, Ricardo Pereira in the Acoustic guitar and
Carlos Mancha in the Drums. Therefore after the first gig Carlos
Mancha left the band and it was substituted by Nuno Gomes. In
December 1995 they participated with two original themes in
the Portuguese Rockabilly "Portugal Rockers”. In
the promotion of the "Portugal Rockers" the Acoustic
guitar was already Jorge Seabra (Kid), Rui Ferreira also opts
to change the Electric bass for the Upright bass. In the end
of 1996, Big Phil leaves the project for professional reasons
and this creates a very big emptiness, replaced with a lot of
courage, pledge and success for Nuno Gomes, that starts to accumulate
the vocals with the drums. In the end of 1997, Rui Ferreira,
also for professional reasons leaves the band; and is substituted
by Ernesto Morais.
In ends of 1999, the band extinguishes, tends an abbreviation
appearance in Oldies Bar in 2001, in Oporto.
In August of 2005, Rui Ferreira and Fernando Pereira, Dixie
Boys' two founders decide to return and after the refusal of
Big Phil and Jorge Kid, they recruit two new elements, Ricardo
Prazeres, vocals and Acoustic Guitar and Mário Cunha for the
Drums. The main influences continue to be Country-Rockabilly,
tends as reference the years forty and fifty.
The band counts in his historial with performances in the whole
country and also Spain, prominence for the passages for the
nostalgic Palha d'Aço and Reimão in Oporto, Heritage in Matosinhos,
Conciliu Bar and Disco H2o in Barcelos, Sardinha Biba in Braga,
Radical West in Aveiro, Scocht Club in Coimbra, Johnny Guitar
in Lisbon, Dayafter in Viseu and the Disco Dezassete in Paços
de Ferreira, also outdoors as in Portalegre in the Square of
the Republica or in the Passeio Alegre, in Oporto. Also in private
clubs as the British club of Oporto. In Spain passages for Ruby
Casino in Barcelona, Pink Elefant in Torremolinos and Trillo
byte in Madrid. More recently prominence for the concerts in
the Ritual Caffe in Maia, Wine Bar and Ryans Irish Bar in Oporto
and the passage for Casablanca in Vigo-Spain.
Dixie Boys returned in force, more ripened, disposed to do with
quality that that more sits down. ROCKABILLY FOREVER AND EVER!!!.
